A Personal Warm Welcome to Gartlandsborg River Lodge
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Gartlandsborg River Lodge. Whether you come for the salmon fishing or simply to enjoy the magnificent surroundings in good company, I hope your stay will be truly unforgettable.

Always a Dream
For many years, I dreamed of owning a salmon fishing lodge with both exceptional quality and genuine soul. Gartlandsborg was always that dream—a remarkable place filled with history, character and opportunity.

It’s All Happening
On 25 March 2023, the former owner called and offered me the opportunity to purchase Gartlandsborg. The agreement was signed, and on 15 May, I proudly became the fifth owner of this historic lodge. It is with great joy and humility that I take on the responsibility of preserving and developing Gartlandsborg. Above all, I want it to be a place where everyone feels genuinely welcome—a place where you can feel like a Lady or Lord for a day.

My Dream for the Future
My hope is that the atmosphere, experiences, companionship and hospitality will leave you with one thought: “I would love to return.”  Warm Regards – Anders

The House Today The guest accommodation includes eight bedrooms, two bathrooms—one renovated in 2024—a dining room, lounge and kitchen. The lounge and four bedrooms date back to 1872. The spacious 100 m² veranda remains largely original, complete with its distinctive inscriptions on the doors and frames. It is the perfect place to enjoy a glass of sparkling wine or a gin and tonic after a day on the river—or simply take in the peace, views and surrounding nature. We offer full board, half board and self-catering. We are highly flexible and will do our best to tailor each stay to the wishes and needs of every group.

Our Uniqe River
Wild The River Namsen has long ranked among Norway’s finest salmon rivers. Gartlandsborg offers approximately 3.5 kilometres of varied fishing along the renowned Gartland–Rosset beat. Unlike many beats farther downstream, the fishing here remains productive at virtually all water levels.

The Beat
The beat offers excellent fishing from both bank and boat, with productive fly-fishing zones and deep holding pools where large salmon often rest. Gartland–Rosset is famous for big salmon. Its record is the legendary 64 lb (29 kg) salmon caught by Mr Merthyr Guest at Guest Rock in 1894.

North Atlantic Salmon
Wild Atlantic salmon face an uncertain future as smolts encounter growing challenges during their long migration towards Greenland. Yet there is reason for optimism. Salmon conservation is now being taken more seriously than ever. Catch restrictions may be necessary—but salmon fishing is about far more than filling the freezer.

Enjoy fishing in the picturesque River Namsen, surrounded by beautiful scenery.

Relax on our welcoming veranda after a day of fishing, and enjoy comfort and tranquillity.

Explore the finest fishing spots with our experienced guides and make the most of your time on the river.

Step back in time and experience life as the nobility once did in our historic lodge, dating back to 1860.

We offer eight inviting bedrooms: three cosy single rooms and five comfortable double rooms, two with an additional bed for extra flexibility. For a truly special stay, our historic Master Bedroom offers stunning river views, timeless charm and peaceful tranquillity.

Our charming dining room seats up to 16 guests—the perfect setting for memorable meals and good company. Breakfast is served at 9:30 a.m. and dinner at 3:30 p.m. Self-catering facilities are also available for greater flexibility.

Our recently renovated single rooms combine modern comfort and contemporary style with the historic character and timeless charm of the property. They are ideal for solo travellers seeking a cosy, peaceful and private retreat during their stay.

Steeped in history, the lounge features floor carvings of the river’s largest salmon—a tribute to its proud fishing heritage. Its warm atmosphere and timeless charm make it the perfect place to relax and unwind.

We are delighted to introduce our new smokehouse, recently built by Anders. Guests are welcome to smoke their freshly caught fish, adding an authentic and traditional touch to their fishing experience.

Our spacious 100 m² veranda offers panoramic river views—the perfect place to unwind after a day of fishing. Sit back with a gin and tonic, take in the beautiful scenery and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

The Ultimate Fight
Salmon fishing is about the complete experience—the powerful take, the excitement of the fight, the frustration of losing a big fish and the beauty of the surrounding nature. Releasing a salmon after a memorable fight is simply part of protecting the future of the river.Salmon fishing is about the complete experience—the powerful take, the excitement of the fight, the frustration of losing a big fish and the beauty of the surrounding nature. Guided Fishing
For guests who are less experienced, we offer guided fishing from both bank and boat, with experienced boatmen available. We also provide fly-casting lessons. Often, just a few simple adjustments can turn frustration into confidence. The beat is divided into upper and lower zones, with rotation at 2:00 p.m. This gives every guest access to the entire beat during the course of the day.

Additional Fishing Boats
We can also help arrange additional fishing beats if required. Guests have access to four boats, although we normally recommend using no more than three to avoid overcrowding. We will discuss the options and tailor the fishing to suit your group.
